General Discussion / Re: Hornshoppe Model 1 Speaker stand alternatives

Henry,

Thank you for pointing to the Dayton Audio outrigger. Looks very good. I have been thinking about making something similar out of a hardwood, but only 8 or 9 inches wide instead of 11 1/2 inches. I will mock up 11 1/2" pieces out of wood to see if I can fit them in the space available. Area is tight.
Yours,
Michael

General Discussion / Hornshoppe Model 1 Speaker stand alternatives

Hi, I know this has been covered before, but could we have another round of people sharing ideas of how to provide better stability for the Hornshoppe Model 1 speaker?

Suggested outrigger designs? Is there a product currently in the market?
Mounting spiked feet?
Other approaches?
Greatly appreciate if people have photos of things they have done to improve stability and firmness.

Thank you everyone.
Yours,
Michael

General Discussion / Compatible amp with Hornshoppe speakers and Preamp
« on: August 30, 2022, 03:27:33 PM »
I've noted that some forum members have shared that they currently use or have used in the past Transcendent Sound Amps with very good results.
Has anyone tried the new Transcendent Audio Mini Beast in combination with the Hornshoppe Model 1 with Heil ESS and the Truth Preamp? And just a single amp, not one for each channel.
Currently using the Amp Camp Amp Version 1.6
Thank you.

Right off the bat, I wish to state that I do not now believe the apparent difference between the right channel only or left channel only setting of the balance control is an issue with the preamp. I suspect the bias setting of the amp has shifted.

Background.
Just had my old McIntosh MR67 Tuner tuned up.
Noticed that with the preamp balance control in the middle that the right channel was clearly dominant.
Suspected that something was awry with the tuner.
Flipped the inputs from the tuner. Same result.
Tried a different tuner, including flipping the inputs. Same result.
Also tried doing the same with the turntable and CD player inputs. Curious thing is that the imbalance did not seem to be as severe.
To the best of my understand these tests suggest the issue is with the amp, not the preamp or the other equipment.

So again my next step is to check the bias setting of my Amp Camp Camp Version 1.8

Would greatly appreciate any suggestions of other tests or things to check.
Thank you for your help with this matter.
Yours,
Michael

Thank you Henry.
I believe the original, now lost FFRS Mark 4:20 Subwoofer General Discussion thread included a suggested setting.
63Hz feels familiar. I will do as you suggest and try to see if I can view the current setting.
Time for a little experimenting
Thanks again for the assist

Good morning,
Should have made a note of the recommended Crown XLS crossover setting for the fantastic Bucket Sub.
Could someone help me out again by posting the recommended low pass frequency setting?
A friend wants me to bring the bucket sub and amp to his home to try it with his stereo and I'm afraid of loosing the setting when I set it up over there.
Thank you.

Michael

PS  Also bringing over the Truth preamp. Doing my best to convince him to buy one for himself.

Please forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
My question is partly related to the use of a Crown XLS amp to drive the bucket sub.

Does anyone know the correct way to wire up the bucket sub / crown xls amp with the Amp Camp Amp Version 1.6 amp?
It worked great with the Amp Camp Amp Version 1.5 amps.
Every combination of wiring I've tried leads to either the suppression of the right or alternatively the left channel. Not complete loss of signal, but almost all.

Greatly appreciate your consideration of my inquiry.
Thank you.
Michael
